With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Physical Therapy Month, there’s no better time to discuss how physical therapy can help cancer survivors. Dr. Julie Lombardo, PT, DPT, OCS, WCS, CEO of Capitol Physical Therapy, a nine-year breast cancer survivor, shares her story and the expertise she brings as a physical therapist. Her experience and knowledge have been instrumental in creating a program that has helped her and many others get back to the things they loved after becoming cancer-free.
“What I was doing was treating myself as a physical therapist. And one of the things I noticed was nobody was talking about [including physical therapy] during my care,” explained Dr. Lombardo. So, Dr. Lombardo created a specialized cancer rehab program for breast cancer patients at Capitol Physical Therapy.
